The only thing that Republican candidates Scott Reed and William “Chip” Sobel agree on is that incumbent Metro Councilman Kelly Downard’s retirement is a loss for Louisville.
Reed said Downard — who has endorsed him — has been a watchdog of taxpayer dollars and that he wants to follow in those footsteps on city budget matters. Sobel concurs that Downard, a charter member of the council, leaves large shoes to fill and wants to expand his role in improving quality of life issues in the district.
Beyond that, the two contenders don’t see much else the same including each others’ qualifications or who has the better edge going up against wealthy developer Gill Holland, who is running unopposed in the Democratic primary. Holland has raised about $47,000, which is more than eight times Reed and Sobel’s haul combined.
